A Look at the GameStop Short Squeeze

Anyone interested in finance and stock trade is familiar with the sudden, inexplicable rise of GameStop stock in early 2021, but you may not be intimately familiar with the details of how it all went down. It’s definitely a story worth hearing.

In early January of 2021, GameStop stock was selling at about 18 dollars a share. The brick and mortar video game company had been struggling for a long time and, for some shareholders, it seemed like a safe bet that this particular stock was primed for pulling off a “short.” This basically means that borrowed stock is sold at the current value, with the expectation that the stock price will soon be dropping. Then the borrower will be able to purchase the same share at a lower price, thus making a profit right under the stockholder’s nose. While this move isn’t illegal, it is certainly morally questionable.

In the case of GameStop stock, a small group of small-time investors in a Reddit group noticed what was happening, and they decided this was their opportunity to teach the “big boys” a lesson. These redditors bought up all the GameStop stock, which of course created a higher demand and therefore drove up stock prices astronomically. From the beginning of January to January, GameStop stock had risen from $18 to $483 dollars a share, which was an increase of 1,250%.

Not only did this move mean hedge fund losses of $6.6 billion, but on January 27th, the S&P 500 fell by 2.6%. Unfortunately, there’s still no clear answer as to what these actions and events all mean for the future, but it’s clear that legislators need to take a long, hard look at market regulations.

Understanding Home Title Fraud

Are you aware that thieves and scammers can scam you out of your entire home without even setting foot on your property? Home title fraud is on the rise and it is one of the scariest forms of “home invasion.”

From 2015 to 2019, real estate and rental fraud grew at 2.6x the rate of credit card fraud, and today, reported real estate losses are occurring 2x as much as credit card fraud.

In the modern, online world, with personal information easily accessible online, scammers can transfer ownership of your home without ever breaking in. For instance, 2 Maryland women forged deeds to 6 houses and began renting them out without the real owners knowledge. In Manhattan, 4 people targeted 30 properties and sold them with forged deeds. In another case, an elderly couple discovered that their own grandson had mortgaged their home for $360k, then tried to sell their home right under their noses.

How can this even happen? Unfortunately, it’s pretty simple. Scammers look up easily accessible property data from public records. This includes the homeowners identity and home equity, primary address and contact info, and examples of the owner’s signature. Scammers then claim ownership of the home and file paperwork with the county. They are then given a (false) deed, which enables them to take out loans against the property, sell the property, or inherit it after the owner’s death. The real homeowner is completely unaware all of this is taking place until they either receive a foreclosure letter, discover they can’t refinance or transfer ownership, or they actually find someone else is living on their property.

The best way to protect against title theft is with title insurance. Title insurance can protect homeowners from surprises that could put their ownership in question at the time of sale. Homeowners can also use title lock services to protect against new fraud attempts and discover these attempts before it’s too late. Learn more about home title fraud in the infographic below:

Marketing Podcast with John Jantsch

john-jantschIn this episode of the Duct Tape Marketing Podcast, I’m doing a solo show where I’m talking about some of the concepts in my newest book, The Ultimate Marketing Engine: Five Steps to Ridiculously Consistent Growth.

Key Takeaway:

In a previous episode, I talk about creating a Customer Success Track. And in this episode, I’m diving into one element of the Customer Success Track — milestones. The idea behind the Customer Success Track is that you develop a roadmap for the stages your customers can go through based on where they are today and based on what their desired outcome is.

Each of those stages in the Customer Success Track has milestones that make it clear what they need to accomplish in order to reach the next stage. In this episode, I’m going to map out a very clear picture of how to develop these milestones for your customer journey.

Topics I Cover:

  • [1:02] The idea behind the Customer Success Track
  • [1:48] What milestone marketing is
  • [2:37] Creating a clear picture of developing milestones
  • [2:41] Breaking out our stages of the channel work that we do: website, content, SEO, social media, email, paid search

Marketing Podcast with Janine Kurnoff

janine-kurnoffIn this episode of the Duct Tape Marketing Podcast, I interview Janine Kurnoff. Janine is the co-founder of The Presentation Co and co-author of Everyday Business Storytelling: Create, Simplify, and Adapt A Visual Narrative for Any Audience 1st Edition.

Key Takeaway:

We’re living in a really noisy time where we’re constantly marketed to. Storytelling helps us break through the noise, and it helps us be heard in an authentic way — because in order to craft a narrative, you really have to walk in your audience’s shoes.

Business storytelling is this idea of taking the concepts of classic storytelling and then helping those of us in the business world make it practical and relevant. Janine Kurnoff has developed a simple, repeatable framework to help you turn your ideas and insights into an authentic, persuasive story. In this episode, Janine Kurnoff and I dive further into how to develop compelling business narratives.

Questions I Ask Janine Kurnoff:

  • [1:30] Why are all marketers telling us to tell stories?
  • [2:57] You have a very scientific, brain-driven framework for storytelling – can you unpack that a little bit?
  • [4:21] Out of the four signposts of a good story (settings, characters, conflict, and resolution) what are the ones people screw up the most?
  • [5:32] Can you give me an example of setting, character, and conflict?
  • [7:26] What role does the storyteller play?
  • [9:17] Do you always need conflict and do you have to create conflict when it doesn’t exist?
  • [12:13] When you’re giving people advice on what they should and shouldn’t do in their slide decks, what are the five things they should never do?
  • [14:20] Is there a difference in how presentations should be done depending upon the audience size or location (Zoom or in-person)?
  • [19:55] Where can people find out more about your work and your book?

Examining the Modern Energy Market

Our world is changing in many ways, and not the least of which is how we view and conserve the environment. Prioritization of clean energy has become one of the main topics we consider in the things we buy, the businesses we support, the homes and appliances we purchase, and even in the way we vote. Seventy-one percent of Americans believe that clean energy should be a priority, and by 2025, the global modern energy market is expected to reach $1.5 trillion.

The renewable energy market is booming. In 2019, the number of renewable energy powered homes had reached the equivalent of 43.5 million. Solar and wind generated power are the source of a combined 370,000 jobs and 37.7 billion dollars in investments. Vehicles are another area of growth with more than 3 million alternative fuel vehicles sold just in 2019.

Americans are concerned about the environment and nearly 50% would be willing to pay an average of $15 additional dollars per month to use clean energy in their homes. Three out of four Americans believe that clean energy will reduce water and air pollution by about 75% each.

The source of sustainable energy is largely built on batteries, as renewables such as solar and wind are captured intermittently. Solar power is captured during daylight, and wind is captured when it’s windy. In between times, that energy must be stored. Batteries are the solution to this storage problem.

Traditionally, we’ve used lithium-ion batteries for all kinds of storage since 1912. In 2021, it’s time for an upgrade. Vanadium flow batteries take energy storage to the next level. Their non-degrading and water-based construction make them the sustainable answer to sustainable energy storage. Learn more about the modern energy market in the infographic below:

Staying Secure Online

Remaining secure online isn’t easy anymore, especially as every 39 seconds someone gets attacked by a hacker online. Cybercrime is a growing concern, and in 2019 alone there were almost 160,000 security incidents, 81% of which linked to stolen or weak passwords. Staying secure online is now a problem for more people due to COVID-19 making more people work from home. 62% of Americans were working from home in 2020, 49% of them having never remote worked before. With so many new opportunities to attack cybercrime skyrocketed. Phishing attacks were up by 600% and ransomware attacks were up by 148%.

An efficient way of keeping passwords safe is using MFA’s, multi-factor authentication, to keep your passwords secure. However, most MFA’s aren’t good enough. Common MFA’s like sending a one-time code through email or SMS can be breached by a hacker intercepting the message. Security questions are often information that a hacker could find using social media or public records. Not only ineffective but these MFA’s are also inconvenient and annoying and require and the second device on hand meaning less trust and reliance by employees.

When passwords need to be reset and forgotten repeatedly, it creates a lot of friction between employees and the websites they just want to log into. Using passwordless authentication software can remove friction, remove the necessity for secondary devices that some people don’t have, and remove the inconveniences of conventional methods while still having better security against hackers.

Marketing Podcast with Itai Sadan

iati-sadamIn this episode of the Duct Tape Marketing Podcast, I interview Itai Sadan. Iati is the Co-founder and CEO of Duda – a website development platform used by thousands of agencies around the world to build sites for their customers.

Key Takeaway:

Duda started out with a simple idea and goal — to help small businesses boost their traffic with better mobile websites. But as they expanded their focus to responsive web design, they were able to grow into the all-in-one platform they are now.

Today, Duda serves thousands of agencies and has partnered with some of the biggest players in the industry. In this episode, I talk with founder Itai Sadan about the future of Duda and important web design concepts.

Questions I Ask Itai Sadan

  • [0:52] Can you tell me about the name of your company and what inspired it?
  • [5:14] What sets do to apart from that sort of sea of potential website builders?
  • [7:30] If someone is comparing in terms of just apples to apples for the Duda platform itself and its competitors, are there hallmarks of Duda that you think help it stand out?
  • [9:57] Is there an element of Dudas platform that has some of that extendability similarly to how WordPress is open source and allows people to develop around it?
  • [11:33] What are the current trends you are seeing a lot of when it comes to design in some of the newer sites that your agencies are building?
  • [15:59] Are you starting to attract pure ecommerce plays away from the bigger players like Squarespace?
  • [16:54] Course building is another thing that has been growing for many years — is that an area you’re focusing on as well?
  • [18:06] What categorically would you tell somebody you’re working on at Duda?
  • [19:12] If a small business came to you or that was listening to this, is that somebody that you would serve, or would you send them actually on to one of your agency partners?

Alexander Djerassi Discusses the Importance of Saving for College Tuition

Saving For College: What You Need to Know

As the years go by, it is known by both parents and students that the amount of money it costs to attend a four year university is steadily increasing. According to a 2019 report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, tuition at four year public universities have increased by 37%and net costs have increased by 24%. In the past ten years, average tuition costs have gone up in all 50 states. It is because of these statistics that entrepreneur Alexander Djerassi stresses to families that saving for college should happen as early on in a child’s life as possible. Unlike back in the 80’s when a four year university only cost around $13,000, planning and saving are the two most important things a parent can do to help their children succeed.

As an entrepreneur and a foreign policy expert, Djerassi has had a lot of success throughout his life. He was a special assistant for the U.S. Department of State as well as a chief of staff. He also was a campaign policy associate for Hilary Cliton when she ran for office back in 2016. His latest achievement is becoming the chief public servant and policy officer for a website called Mos.com. This website is designed to make it simple for students to apply for financial aid when it is time to head off to college. Unlike other companies, Mos.com pairs students up with an advisor that will guide them through every single dollar of financial aid that the student qualifies for. Knowing how stressful it is to pay for tuition nowadays, Alexander Djerassi wanted to help students ease their financial stress and help them prepare for these costs.

Below are some tips for how parents can prepare for college tuition:

  1. Create a budget

When your child gets their first job or receives money from family members, it is important to budget that money and set some aside for college expenses. This will help teach children responsibility.

  1. Do your research

It is important for parents to keep up with the knowledge of just how expensive some universities are these days. Go online and do some research about which schools are the most affordable.

  1. Become aware of financial aid guidelines

Your child will not be eligible for everything regarding financial aid. You can help your child prepare by focusing on which ones they can apply to and which ones they should not waste their time with.

  1. Again, start saving early

This will always be the most important tip of all. College tuition costs are showing no signs of slowing down, so it is best to get ahead of the curve and start saving for your child’s college education as soon as humanly possible.

We at Social Media Explorer understand that college savings and tuition costs can be an overwhelming topic to grasp. Alexander Djerassi wants readers to use this article as a tool to help guide parents through the stressful times that lie ahead. But just remember, the stress is only temporary and, with proper planning and saving, you will have the opportunity to give your child all of the necessary tools for them to succeed later on in life. If you have not done so already, go ahead and check out Mos.com and find out which forms of financial aid your student is eligible for and get all of the information and help that you need in order to send them on the right path. The stress and headaches will be worth it after all once they finally walk across the stage during graduation and receive that college degree!

Are There Ways to Navigate Workplace Politics

There is a lot that you need to do in order to make sure that you can find solutions for the big picture of what may be going on at your workplace. Whether you’re new or you have been at your workplace for awhile, you know that it can take some time to really figure everything out.

Workplace politics are never an easy thing to consider, and you want to be sure that you’re doing the best that you can in order to figure out where you may fit. How do you navigate these? Here are some tips that can help to make the process a little easier for you.

1. Understand Organizational Structure

First, you want to be sure that you have a fairly solid understanding of the structure that you’re working with. More often than not, the structure of your company is going to dictate what direction that the politics may be headed. Look into everything that you need to know about bureaucracy and work within that as you navigate the ins and outs of this whole thing.

2. Build Connections Quickly

The earlier that you start building connections with other employees, especially those who have influence and power in the organization, the better off that you’re going to be in the long run.

You want to feel comfortable with everyone at your company so that you can ask questions and sort out information when it comes down the pipeline. Plus, networking is always good, especially if you want to move up in the company or connect with outside resources.

3. Listen Well

If you need to stay ahead of politics at work then it’s absolutely essential that you learn how to listen well. Learn how to read body language and be sure that you are absorbing what others have to say. Not only will you be able to stay ahead of what’s going on in your company, but people will definitely feel more comfortable talking with you about things that may be going on.

4. Learn How to Communicate Well

Not only do you need to know how to listen, but knowing how to communicate well with others can go a long way when you’re navigating work politics.

How well do you talk with people? Do you respond to emails in a professional manner? Are you good at helping others with tasks they may not understand? Good communication is great for any team, and can go a long way if you want to do well at the workplace.

5. Don’t Be Nasty

Attitude is everything. You want to be sure that you’re friendly with everyone – yes, including the people who drive you absolutely crazy. You don’t want to gossip or speak poorly about anyone that you work with, because people talk and it will likely come back to you when you least expect it. it can be really detrimental for your mental health too – so be nice!

6. Be Wise About What You Share (And What You Don’t)

Too much private information and it could be used to blackmail you. Obviously, it’s fine to have workplace friends and to hang out whenever you want. But, it’s always a good idea to be careful about what you share and who you share it with. Otherwise, your private business may get out to people that you don’t want to know it.

7. Be Patient

Lastly, if you’re trying to deal with office politics, you want to be sure that you’re patient. There is always a lot going on every single day, and there are a lot of inner workings you need to sort out. But, if you’re patient and you learn as much as you can, you’re going to find that it’s much simpler for you to get ahead and get what you need from the structure and those in it.

As you can see, there are a lot of things that you need to be sure to explore and understand as you get into the nitty-gritty of workplace politics. You want to talk to people and follow these tips as you work out what is going to be best for you and your situation.

It isn’t always a straightforward process, but there are a lot of things you can do to make it easier. Explore as much as you can and be diligent – if you do things right, you can do well in your environment and stay ahead of the things that you want to be able to accomplish.

I am sure, if you reflected on your lifetime’s content library – all the ‘likes’ you gave away on your favorite social media platforms, the posts and comments, pictures and videos that feature you online as well as all those old Kodak photos your friend took 20 or 30 years ago that may still see the light of social media one day – you would certainly not be able to recall every single piece of content that can possibly be tied back to you. Yet, it’s out there, regardless of your recollection. If not on someone’s phone, your precarious image is buried under some old documents in a school friend’s drawer or packed in someone’s memory box in their closet.

RescueTime tells us that the average adult swipes, types, and makes calls over the course of 3 hours and 15 minutes each day (the top 20% even spend 4.5 hours on their phones). In short, 50 days per year are full of opportunities to make just one little mistake, one post or comment that you might regret later in life. Maybe it will cost you your education or your job. Maybe it will cost you your family. Or if you are lucky, it won’t cost you anything other than data charges, and you will be just fine.

We all tend to share our thoughts on social media without being intentional at times, unaware of possible repercussions, especially on our so called “private” accounts we only share with family and friends- those accounts that feel safe and protected. How many times would you say you posted something because you thought it was funny at that time? How many times did you post after a few drinks and what you shared did not seem like a great idea the next day? How many times did you post based on an emotional reaction to something you read, heard or saw? We have all been there. The danger is that everything we say and do on social media is on the record, stored away in the cloud, screenshotted on someone’s phone, waiting to come back at us later in life with the potential to impact our career, our family or our life.

Our lifetime content library, one that I call our life-brand, is our digital fingerprint shaped by the collection of publicly accessible content shared by or featuring us, including photos, videos, audio recordings, social media posts, and written statements or comments. This includes all possible content pieces that have not seen the light of day yet, but possibly will in the future. We all possess one life-brand, there is only ONE. It might be strong, or it might be weak, but our individual life-brand exists. Our life-brand takes control if we are not aware of it and gains power and strength over the course of our lifetime the more content we accumulate in the cloud. It is literally out of control. The good news is that once we become aware of it, we can actively control it so we can arrive, advance, and thrive in the professional corridors of our livelihood instead of potentially tarnishing our education and career. Nobody prepared us for what could come after opening the social media floodgates through our first Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or Twitter account. Screen time is no longer a casual activity. A click, a post — in one breath — can stain our reputation in just seconds. However, if you frame your life as your life-brand, you will indeed be able to use social media as the tool it was originally designed for and instantly recognize the risks your engagement could cause you.

How to control your Life-Brand

The concept of a controlled life-brand goes way beyond what we understand as “personal branding,” that is, the intentional effort to build credibility in a certain field, advance one’s career and build a particular identity. Life-brand also includes all of our actions and words that we unintentionally put on record through recordings, “private” comments and posts, and photos and videos we record, or others record of us. It identifies one person as distinct from another and is defined by a person’s unique purpose and identity through their everyday displayed public behavior and chosen language in the real and virtual worlds, which ultimately shapes the public’s perception about the life-brand owner.

Life-brand expands the definition of personal branding as an intentional effort of using your purpose in life to impact change, to build (early) confidence, and to be comfortable with self-promotion (I am particularly addressing my female readers with the last point). Life-brand takes into account your public display of (un)intentional language and behavior, or how you portray your identity to others. While personal branding is clearly defined as intentional efforts to advance your career and increase influence, life-brand develops itself with or without your control, with or without your intention. Like personal branding, life-brand can positively influence your development and career, if understood and controlled. If unaware of its power or existence, your life brand can negatively impact your career and future career, family, and aspirations by virtue of disadvantageous public perception of you. Considering this additional component of life-brand, you might be perceived by the public in an inaccurate way based on interpretation of your unintentional behavior or language that might not reflect your true identity.

The image below shows the elements that control everyone’s life-brand. It consists of two components: your identity and your chosen purpose in life. Identity in the context of life-brand is defined as the summary of your behavior and language displayed through social media or in the real world, while purpose can be discovered through the vehicle of a passion, an idea, your profession or expertise in a certain field, or an interest or hobby you pursue.

A picture containing diagram Description automatically generated

Managing the combination of and connection between identity and purpose is crucial to truly controlling a life-brand rather than being controlled by it. This means your behavior and language must be in alignment with your chosen purpose and need to be portrayed with integrity. That is the case for social media, as well as behavior and language displayed in the real world because a public outburst can also make its way as a viral internet video. Sharing your purpose with the world through social media channels is an intentional, controlled effort you undertake. Make no mistake, it is not random.

Public display of purpose can lead to significant positive impact on others and our community thanks to the vast reach social media channels have these days. When a life-brand is owned and controlled, it is created by both public perception and positive impact and becomes a powerful vehicle to impact, reach, and influence others. When the concept of life-brand is understood, controlled, and proactively developed with integrity between purpose and identity, the concept enables us to establish a unique life-brand voice, powerfully influencing others who listen and inspiring them to take action in response.

We can protect ourselves from possible social media missteps simply by having awareness that our life-brand exists. But the earlier we understand the concept and the possibilities we have to actively control it, the bigger the opportunity to use social media as a tool to drive our careers forward, impact positive change in the world and our communities, and help educate the next generation of social media users on following our example.

Marketing Podcast with Michael Clinton

michael-clintonIn this episode of the Duct Tape Marketing Podcast, I interview Michael Clinton. Michael Clinton is the former president and publishing director of Hearst Magazines and currently serves as special media advisor to the CEO of the Hearst Corporation. He’s also the author of a book we’re going to talk about: ROAR into the Second Half of Your Life – Before It’s Too Late.

Key Takeaway:

We are living in a time when everyone is constantly reassessing what is next for their future. People who have spent years working are now seeing their industry dramatically evolve. At the same time, the post-career population is also going through massive change and dealing with the fact that many of them are not prepared financially, logistically, or emotionally for the next phase of their lives. And while we may want to retire, most of us don’t want to do nothing.

In this episode, Michael Clinton and I discuss concepts from his book upcoming new book ROAR into the Second Hald of Your Life – Before It’s Too Late. We deep dive into how to fulfill your dreams at any age and how to make the second half of your life happy and productive.

Questions I Ask Michael Clinton:

  • [0:53] My first obvious question I have to ask you is – how old are you?
  • [1:09] What is your favorite Hearst publication?
  • [1:53] Was there anything that led you to explore this idea of making the second half of your life something that you would roar into?
  • [5:44]I saw a whole lot of career change during the pandemic – like ‘now’s the time’ sort of energy was released. Do you think that that was always there, but it just got magnified because of the climate of the world?
  • [7:14] What stops people from owning what their next chapter should be?
  • [9:20] ROAR is an acronym for your four-part process – have you found a good, easy way to unpack that for people?
  • [11:03] The reassessment phase I imagine is one of the hardest parts for most people – what happens if you decide that you’ve been on the wrong team?
  • [12:05] What would you say is a common step that folks you talk to make when they are trying to reset things?
  • [13:54] Why are people tuning out to this demographic that we’re talking about?
  • [16:58] Where can people find out more about your work and pick up a copy of ROAR?

The Best Ways to Market Your Commercial Property

URL: https://pixabay.com/vectors/realtor-business-house-sign-sale-6019792/

Before you start marketing your commercial property, create a real estate marketing strategy to help you track the overall progress of your advertising efforts. A marketing plan also allows you to effectively communicate with prospects, stakeholders, and clients about your project.

In this article, you’ll learn how you can successfully market your commercial real estate property and successfully find potential clients, then convince them to trust your business.

  1. Keep your property customer-ready

Many commercial properties undergo wear and tear. To keep your property in good condition, contract cleaning specialists like The Florida Maids to help give your property the attention it deserves. Below is a list of specific areas you should pay special attention to:

  • Look after your floors to make sure the flooring is always intact
  • Regularly service the HVAC system to ensure functionality and longevity
  • Properly maintain the roofs and ceilings to keep potential leaks at bay
  • Don’t forget your exterior, as that’s what gives the first impression to your prospective customers
  1. Digital marketing

The digital space is vast and full of business opportunities. Take a digital marketing course if you must, but ensure that your real estate business is well placed on the internet. These tips will help you succeed at marketing your commercial real estate online:

Create a business website

Having a website that contains content, videos, and images of your commercial property will help people find you when they click to search.

Embrace social media

Being active on social media platforms enables you to meet a lot of potential clients from different demographics. Before you start marketing, find out where your target clients hang out so that you can interact and create SEO-optimized content and ads that they will see whenever they go online.

Email marketing campaigns

The content in your emails should target your prospects, and it should be what they want to see. Insert links that lead them to your website for more information on the commercial property listing.

Blogging

Create a blog and generate valuable-packed content that specially targets your commercial real estate business.

Track your metrics

First, select the marketing metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) that will help you track the progress of your marketing efforts, such as website visits, impressions, and lead generation. This will help you know what parts of your marketing strategy to improve.

  1. Offline marketing

Off-line marketing is marketing off the internet,a dn may may involve the following:

Printing a standard marketing flyer

An excellent commercial marketing brochure should contain the following:

  • A location map
  • High-quality photos
  • Property Features
  • Contact information

Cold calling

Cold calling involves monitoring your site visitors and targeting those who might become potential clients, then contacting them by phone calls, messaging, or face-to-face meetings to convince them to buy.

Installing leasing signs

This is a traditional way of marketing where you put up signs near your property to let your prospects know that there’s available space.

Endnote

Effective marketing introduces any business brand to potential clients and commercial real estate isn’t any different. Acting on the above advertising techniques will help you successfully market your real estate business to a broader audience, setting you up for growth.

Increasing Diversity in the Supply Chain

While there is no question that COVID-19 took a toll on all of society, one of the first things people started hearing about in the media was the breakdown of the global supply chain. In 2020, the shortages of necessities like PPE, toilet paper, and food items became so widespread that the general public was getting concerned to the point of hoarding and shortages. 97% of businesses worldwide were affected by the pandemic, which meant lower demand and less revenue for many – if not going out of business altogether. The businesses that were affected the most were small businesses in high rent zip codes.

During the first 2 weeks of the pandemic, these businesses were laying off more than double what low rent zip codes did. From February to April, minority business ownership declined by nearly double than that of white business ownership. This was an enormous setback for increasing diversity in the supply chain. At the same time, public outcry for racial diversity exploded. 70% of millennials saying that they chose to shop for brands that practice increasing diversity, and 60% of people said that a brand’s reaction to protests influenced their buying decisions.

Now that vaccines are widely available and the world is hopefully turning the corner on the global pandemic, it’s time to think critically about building the supply chain right – and diversity is an important part of this. Connecting minority suppliers and service providers is a must have in today’s times. There needs to be an equitable marketplace to allow fairness for all.

Learn more about how to increase diversity in the supply chain in the infographic below:

5 Killer Tips to Increase Your YouTube Subscribers

YouTube is undoubtedly the biggest video-sharing network worldwide. As a content creator, this makes it the biggest platform for publishing videos that will attract a global audience. However, this also means having to stand out from the millions of content creators using this platform. The easiest way to do this is by having more YouTube subscribers who will make it easier for your content to go viral. In this article, we’ll discuss the most efficient ways to increase the number of YouTube subscribers.

  1. Ask viewers to subscribe

The easiest and most natural way to acquire anything is to ask for it. This is also the number one way to gaining more subscribers and making money on YouTube, as it propels your viewers to take instant action. All you need is a simple call to action (CTA) asking your audience to “click the subscribe button below.”

However, there is a catch to asking viewers to subscribe, and that is showing why your channel is worth a subscription. The easiest way to do this is by tackling a running topic, providing valuable information, and teasing what you are working on next before having your CTA.

  1. Use influencers and other creators to your advantage

The role of influencers in digital marketing is growing by the day. As a YouTube content creator, you can never undermine the importance of using influencers and other creators in growing your channel. The secret to doing this is narrowing down the most influential figures in your niche and featuring them in your videos. This way, they get to influence a good percentage of their followers to subscribe to your channel.

  1. Leverage other social media channels

Interconnectivity has become the defining pillar for enhancing brand awareness for any business or content creator. You can never ignore the importance of emphasizing your brand on social media channels. Go for the long haul by having a presence on popular social media platforms and use them to attract more traffic to your YouTube channel. The easiest way to do this is by making a post that attracts attention and availing links to your channel for anyone who wants to know more.

  1. Create quality content and interact with your audience

The most natural way to acquire more YouTube subscribers is by focusing more on your output and interacting with your audience. Viewers are more inclined to subscribe to a channel that provides them with better value, which should be your top priority. A simple but highly effective way to accomplish this is to shape your content marketing approach to be always in touch with your audience.

  1. Brand your channel

Finally, do not forget to brand your channel if you want more subscribers. This is an old trick, but the power of branding will get you to heights you never imagined before. Before making any tweaks to your YouTube channel, get invested in channel branding.

Endnote

The simplest way to monetize your YouTube channel is to strive and get as many subscribers as possible. These tips will give you a great headstart as a content creator keen on earning from the video-sharing network.

However, recently college degrees have become less useful. 73% of Americans get a job unrelated to their degree, and more than half of Gen-Zs in the U.S think that a college degree isn’t necessary for success. College degrees have become increasingly unpopular. The cost of a degree has tripled in price in the last 20 years, and people can expect to pay $400,000 for a bachelor’s degree. The average graduate spends 20 years trying to pay off their loans. The effect the exorbitant prices have been showing up in students lifestyles. Housing insecurity is rampant in college students, 56% of students don’t have secure housing and 17% have been homeless in the last year. Half of the college students can’t afford a healthy diet, and 20% of students lose weight due to malnutrition.

A Free Online Education Is The Next Best Thing

Getting a free online college education is a good option for students who want a college-level education without the college-level cost. Ironically, many college websites offer free online college education courses that anyone can sign up for. Alternatively, several available third-party websites offer free or relatively extremely inexpensive online courses. Just because one way is tradition, doesn’t mean that it is the best way to get an education.

It’s entirely possible to catch up on your education in what used to be a non-traditional route, but is becoming more common every day with the advent of more embracing modern technology. Learn more in the infographic below:

Turning Negativity Into Resilient Fuel

Turning Negativity Into Resilient Fuel written by John Jantsch read more at Duct Tape Marketing

Marketing Podcast with Kelly Lewis

kelly-lewisIn this episode of the Duct Tape Marketing Podcast, I interview Kelly Lewis. Kelly is the founder of Damesly, a boutique women’s tour company, and creator of Go! GirlGuides, the world’s first series of travel guidebooks designed specifically for women. She’s also the author of a book called Tell Her She Can’t: Inspiring Stories of Unstoppable Women.

Key Takeaway:

Kelly Lewis set out to share her story and impact the lives of every woman who has been told she isn’t strong enough, smart enough, or capable enough to excel. In Kelly’s recent book, Tell Her She Can’t, she shares the true stories of 35 inspirational women who overcame the naysayers to achieve “impossible” dreams.

In this episode, we discuss how Kelly found a way to take the negative experiences she was going through and turn them into fuel that could push her forward instead of letting them derail her life.

Questions I Ask Kelly Lewis:

  • [0:48] The title of your book feels a little bit like a dare – is that a bit of what you’re trying to evoke?
  • [1:15] Were you at some point told in your life that you can’t?
  • [2:02] Why is it so important for others to tell us that we can’t do something?
  • [3:29] Was there a point at which you were going to make the assumption that you’ve achieved what some people would call a level of success?
  • [6:50] Are there inherent differences in travel for women?
  • [9:44] Would you say that there’s certainly an element of this idea that people don’t come out of the womb and decide that they’re going to take on the world?
  • [12:01] What are some of your favorite stories that have seemed to have really touched people?
  • [13:26] How did you collect your stories of these women in your book?
  • [16:02] Do you see your work as part of the mission to affect broader social change in the treatment of women everywhere?
  • [16:48] Has the travel bug hit you again yet?
  • [17:22] Give us an idea of a fun trip that you’ve put together?
  • [18:22] Where can people find out more about all of your work?
